How many vehicles do you own? For many people, the old idea of one car per family is long past, with two or three cars being standard. In some cases, a home can have four or five cars parked outside it if adult children still live at home. Owning this many cars can often create a serious parking problem, as many homes are being built without a sufficient amount of parking spaces. On-street parking brings increased security problems and is often not a practical option anyway. Buying additional land for parking is rarely possible and would probably mean parking some distance from your property anyway, so what is the solution?

For an increasing number of people, car stackers are a great way to fit multiple cars into a single space. By stacking cars in multiple layers, it is possible to greatly reduce your car parking footprint and to fit all of your cars into a much smaller area than would usually be possible.

What are car stackers?

Car stackers come in many sizes and styles. You can purchase residential stackers which hold two or three cars in a stack; you can also buy vertical commercial stackers that will hold ten or more vehicles in a single vertical stack. Whatever the size of your stack, you simply drive your vehicle into your usual parking space, and then at the press of a button, the vehicle is raised up to create another parking space under your car. Depending on your requirements and the frequency with which you use each vehicle, you may choose to use a stacker with a pit or one that simply fits into an existing building. Car stackers with pits are obviously more complex to build, but they do offer a significant advantage as the ability to lower the stacker into the pit means that it is possible to bring the top vehicle down to ground level and drive it away without first removing the lower vehicle.

How to choose the right stacker

Before choosing a car stacker, take some time to think through how you will use it and the environment where it will be located. Residential car stackers can take up to six cars; that is a three-vehicle stack in a double garage. If you use all of your vehicles regularly, it makes sense to install a pit so you are not always moving cars to get to the one you need. If several of your cars are rarely used, then there is probably no reason to bother with a pit. Whatever your needs, talk to a specialist before you commit to a purchase. Someone with experience installing and maintaining car stackers will have the right knowledge to suggest the perfect car stacking system for your home.
